Corrections Officer Trainee
The Corrections Officer Trainee participates in formal training sessions and on-the-job assignments to develop skills and techniques in the custody and supervision of inmates in a state correctional facility
Salary Range – $42 – $44K
Corrections Officer 1
This is work in the care, custody, control, and non-professional counseling of inmates at a state correctional facility on an assigned shift. Work is differentiated from the lower-level trainee job by independently performing the full range of duties related to the care, custody, control, and non-professional counseling of inmates.
Salary Range – $44K-88K; available upon successful completion of Corrections Officer Trainee Program + 1 year of experience in corrections in PA
Corrections Officer 2
Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by the responsibility for the performance of lead work responsibilities or the performance of other specialized work in the care, custody, control, and non-professional counseling of inmates.
Salary $48K – 95K; Available upon completion of One year as a Corrections Officer 1 or Two years of experience in corrections security work in a PA state or county corrections facility.
Corrections Officer 3
This is supervisory and/or administrative work. Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by the responsibility for supervising lower-level corrections officers and/or performing administrative duties that include assisting with the development and effective implementation of agency or facility program policies and procedures.
Salary $49K – $96K; Available after One year as a Corrections Officer 2 (Commonwealth job title);
or Four years of experience in corrections security work in a PA state or county corrections facility.
Corrections Officer 4
This is advanced administrative and supervisory work in the care, custody, control, and non-professional counseing of inmates on an assigned shift in a state correctional facility, or administrative and supervisory work within the Central Office of the Department of Corrections. Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by the responsibility for developing and ensuring the effective implementation of agency or facility program policies and procedures and supervising lower-level commissioned officers (Corrections Officers 3).
Salary Range: $56K – $110K. Available upon Two years as a Corrections Officer 3 (Commonwealth job title) or Six years of experience in corrections security work in a PA state or county corrections facility, including two years of supervisory experience.
Corrections Officer 5
This is professional correctional and managerial work in administering the security program or directing the unit management teams, and providing non-professional counseling to inmates in a state correctional institution, or functioning at the agency level as an administrator within the central office of the Department of Corrections. Work is differentiated from the lower-level job by having the full responsibility of either the security or unit management program at a state correctional facility, or by serving as a program administrator in a central office setting. Work at this level includes the supervision of subordinate Corrections Officers 4.
Salary Range $64K – $126K; Available after One year as a Corrections Officer 4 (commonwealth job title) or Six years of professional correctional experience in a PA state or county correctional facility, including three years of supervisory experience.
